A career in Yoga
A career in Yoga.
I recently turned 30 and when I told my friends how excited I was for this milestone they were all shocked as they were dreading it. I was excited because I was the happiest I had been in my life and that is thanks to choosing a career in Yoga.
Nine years ago I graduated university and started a corporate career. I started working in a small agency and from there I did 7 years of corporate work for various agencies and organisations. Even though I got to work for some amazing high profile brands and have some amazing experiences I never really enjoyed going to work. I had always toiled with the idea of doing something different, something I was really passionate about but it took me a long time to pluck up the courage and make the change.
Throughout my corporate career I had suffered from chronic stress and Yoga had always been my go-to when I needed to escape my busy life. I loved Yoga and practised it every day. The thought of doing something I loved for a job was really appealing.
It took me a long time to decide to make the change but when I did I never looked back. Now, instead of sitting at a desk for hours at a time I get to do yoga, teach yoga and share all my knowledge of yoga with those around me. I look at life differently and am able to enjoy the little things so much more.
The other day I was talking to a friend and she mentioned how on Sunday nights she has that dreaded feeling of having to go back to work on Monday. It was an amazing revelation for me as I used to have that feeling when I was working in my corporate job, now I never get that feeling, I had completely forgotten about it until she mentioned it which really illustrates for me how much I love my life and what I do now.
The beauty of Yoga is you are continuously learning. For me it will be a lifelong discovery of learning, teaching and growing and I look forward to the journey ahead.
