Membership Committee
Chair: Tina Hausser, Heilpraktiker, Naturopath
The last three months have seen significant growth, to a total of 66 members and sponsors. The WNF executive board approved 6 new members:
2 Full (Switzerland and Nigeria),
3 Educational (Spain, Canada and Nigeria)
1 Associate (Canada)
At the last membership committee meeting, held in June, we discussed continuing to contact potential members. The goal is to present new potential members for approval at the August Executive meeting. If you know of any national naturopathic association or naturopathic schools in your world region, please let us know at members@worldnaturopathicfederation.org.
Terminology Committee
Chair: Tina Hausser, Heilpraktiker, Naturopath
The terminology project, launched as a subcommittee of the WNF naturopathic roots committee, was introduced at the 71° WHO World Health Assembly in May in Geneva with broad interest by the department of Traditional Medicine and the terminology technical office.
In the third WNF terminology committee meeting in June members optimized the template of definitions and discussed the definition of four per reviewed terms in detail to prepare second drafts. Final second drafts will be sent to WNF members for review and feedback. The draft WNF Terminology Document will be presented for approval at the 3° WNF GA in March 2019.
Education Committee
Chair: Tom Greenfield, ND
The WNF Education Committee has been very active, collaborating on the WNF document Recommended Minimum Standards for Naturopathic Education. This publication will provide correlation between education and credentials for outside agencies to compare naturopathic education with that in similar healthcare professions.
The Education Committee has recently welcomed three new members from Nigeria, Spain and Canada.
The WNF has raised awareness of the need for donations of textbooks for naturopathic schools in developing countries.
| WHO Working Groups
Dr. Iva Lloyd attended the WHO working group on global standards for cupping which was held in Jinan China July 3rd to 5th. The WNF has also been asked to participate in the WHO working group on educational standards for Yoga which will be held in India in early October. Being able to participate in this important meetings is an essential role of the WNF and ensures that the naturopathic perspective is included.
WNF Call-Action Campaign
During the WHA there were three global health issues identified – universal health coverage, anti-microbial resistance (AMR) and non-communicable diseases (NCD). The global focus of AMR and NCD is on prevention, a perfect fit for the naturopathic profession. Yet, during the various meetings what was apparent was that the naturopathic profession needed to more proactive in order to be part of the conversation on AMR and NCD.
